Google Health allows you to keep all your health information in one place. It also lets you get your medical records from all the different doctors/hospitals/clinics you may have visited and keep them in one place. Then the best part (and most useful) it is allows you to share all your information with your family or doctor ensuring more accurate and inclusive medical history. Hopefully this is the first step towards electronic medical records that will end the many repeated questions and constant interrogation about your health history. As you get older you may not remember when you had that knee surgery, or when you took a certain medication. Now you won’t have to!

Features (as google puts them):

With Google Health, you can:

	Build online health profiles You can enter your health conditions, medications, allergies, and lab results into your Google Health profile and you can name the profile anything you want. You can even create multiple profiles for family members or others you care for.
	Import medical records from hospitals and pharmacies Choose from a list of Google Health partnersto see if your hospital or pharmacy can send copies of your medical records or prescriptions to your Google Health profile. This way, you can save an accurate history of your medical conditions, medications, and test results all in one place.
	Share your health records Help better coordinate your care by sharing your health records with individuals in your care network – family members, friends and doctors. You can stop sharing at any time and will always be able to see who has access to your information. You can also print a wallet-sized version of your health profile to share with your doctor or family members in person.
	Explore online health services: Browse the online health services directoryto find services that are integrated with Google Health that can help you better manage your health needs. Future

This seems like a great and healthy alternative that hopefully will be utilized widely in the future!

Their new app which was originially a part of Google labs (ideas in the works at google) allows you to dial 1-800-goog-411 to get information about local business’s. All you have to do is dial the number, state the location and the name of the business, and then you get connected to the business for free!

Are you THIS kind of person? Then Google Alerts are for you...

Calm down, No need for alarm, its just Google Alert time!

I found out about this nifty little App recently and decided to share it with the masses! Google Alerts are easy to sign up for (all you need is a google account and you are all set). Just go to this website and enter any search term that you wish to monitor. Then Google will monitor that phrase, name, word, or topic that you entered and send you e-mails when relevant new stories are posted on the Web. You can opt to get emails “as-it-happens”, daily, or weekly, depending on your level of interest (and frankly how much time you have on your hands!)

• keeping current on a competitor or industry

Watch your tongue!

• Don’t say more than you have to when presenting or blogging
• Brevity is divine

• Social Media is quite an animal, but watch it’s claws (creepers)
• Anyone can use the internet for their personal/professional gain (which is the beauty of it)
• David Meerman Scott is highly intelligent, read his book
• Use images to get attention

My presentation will highlight what I have learned throughout this experience and I will try to bring up one tip from each week that I learned that perhaps others didn’t. This way the presentation will perhaps bring the forefront new techniques or ideas related to New Media. Hopefully this will give others even more to take away from the class than they originally had gleaned.

Oh Google Google Google… I’m starting feel as though you can do no wrong!

News from the U.K. Google News site

This week I will discuss Google News Google’s way of getting the news out to the masses. Just click on that link and it will bring you to the home page which boasts top stories from all over the U.S. (you can change to any country you want using the tab down feature). Also, you can search using the Google search funtion at the top of the page. Want to learn what Martha Stewart is up to? No, probably not, but you can! Just type in her name and the latest new stories will pop up instantly.

Talk about a fast paced information age!

There is also a function on the right that allows you to personalize your page and only get the news about things you are interested in. On the left hand side you can click through top stories by category. As you scroll down the page the top stories from each major category are listed as well.

Google has done again, and with this feature the news of the world is at your fingertips!

Oh Google, you lovely lovely organization (that is not so quietly taking over the word).

Welcome the Knol, commonly known as “a unit of knowledge”. The google “Knol” application allows you to write (a “knol”) about an area that you are particularly well versed in, and is then posted to be read by others when searching for this topic. A knol is similar to a blog in that it is by the public for the public, except it is streamlined to be used only for sharing and pursuing knowledge.

Google, per usual, puts it best:

  All you need is an account, a name and a desire to write and we’ll take care of the rest.

  You specify the level of collaboration you want with the community. Your knol, your voice.

Welcome to Google Earth! Another delightful app brought to you by my beloved Google. You can download Google Earth for FREE and, well I’ll let it promote itself:

“Google Earth lets you fly anywhere on Earth to view satellite imagery, maps, terrain, 3D buildings, from galaxies in outer space to the canyons of the ocean. You can explore rich geographical content, save your toured places, and share with others.”-The Goggle

Crazy cool right? Right! What other features are there you might ask, well of course I will tell you:

A city over time

1. Historical Imagery: You can view anywhere on earth over the course of a specified time (that you pick) and see how it has changed over time. Want to see the effects of global warming on Alaska, or how your home town has changed over the years, go for it!
2. Ocean Explorer: You explore the deepest parts of the ocean (The Marina Trench) and even find out new places to surf and dive!
   

   Turtle! Turtle!

3. Record your tour: You can capture your trip from point A-Z in real time using this nifty little tool. You can also save your trips and share them with friends and family.

Sigh. Boy do I love Earth, and the many things I can Google about the best planet made yet!
